Late Afternoon Sights at Big Sur’s Pfeiffer Beach

A drive down the coastal scenic route that is California’s Highway 1 may be about the journey, but Big Sur has always been a must-visit destination. Despite being known for its heavily photographed landscape, there still is an abundance of outdoor sights to see, including places like Pfeiffer Beach.
Pfeiffer Beach, a dog-friendly beach within Los Padres National Forest, is known for its purple-hued sand and Keyhole Arch rock formation. It can only be reached by a long, narrow and winding road just off of a slightly hidden turnoff along Highway 1. A prime sunset-viewing spot, crowds flock to Pfeiffer Beach around “magic hour” to catch the golden sunset glow.
